17 year old Josh Mann has been kiting for one and half years and can’t get enough of it.
Josh is pushing the boundaries in wave riding and freestyle.
“Living in Rye has its fair share of advantages and disadvantages,” he said.
“The water is clean, shallow for miles, and super smooth which is great, but we need a north wind which during summer almost doesn’t blow.’’
Josh would like to be a pro rider but is also interested in kite equipment design. Josh’s family is into surfing but he says his passion will always be in kiteboarding.
“My best session ever was in Marlo (a few hours east of Melbourne). I loved it because it was a perfect 23 knots, I was kiting in the river mouth of the Snowy River and had it all to myself,” he said.
“The water was flat and further out were really nice waves, so I just stole my brothers surfboard and went out back with my kite.’’
Look out for Josh in the competition scene in the coming season.
