Intro: This trick progresses nicely on from the back roll. The differences are that you will need to pay more attention to kite movement and you will be changing your direction of travel.
Take off: Slow your speed down more than you would for a normal back roll. Drift the kite off to 12 o’clock and begin to edge hard upwind.
Carve round into the back roll more than you would for a normal popped back roll (this is key).
As you feel tension in the lines and the kite is directly above your head, stop pulling on the bar and pop into the rest of the rotation (you should only have about 180 degree to complete).
In air: Concentrate on keeping kite above your head, if you redirect the kite in the opposite direction you will pendulum away from it and then have no speed out of the transition. Spot you landing over your new back shoulder keep your body facing in the opposite direction to which you were originally traveling.
Land: As you are about to come into land lean a little towards your new front foot (look down at it to spot your landing) and redirect the kite in the new direction. Imagine you are just doing a water start and sending the kite. You should feel acceleration in the new direction and should land with a little speed heading slightly down wind. Land pretty flat and then progress onto you edge and head off for the next trick.
Trouble: If you are landing and your kite is already on the opposite side of the window and you have no speed out of the transition, then come into the trick slower and concentrate on keeping the kite above you the whole time you are in the air. Good Luck!
