By day he’s a happy kiter content on flying high but by night Scott Hone becomes Skull, a daredevil on a BMX bike who is clad in Ug boots, flanny shirts and footy shorts.
The Circus Oz performer is happiest kiting at Victoria’s Altona beach when he is away from the world stage.
“I love that kiting uses the wind, no motors, no petrol,” he said.
“Being in the water feels great and being environmentally friendly makes a huge difference while living in this big scary city.”
Hone recently returned from San Francisco and Texas with new ideas about putting his BMX tricks out on the water.
“I think that all the spinning I do on the bike helps to give me an idea of where I am in the air when I’m doing those tricks on the water,” he said.
Hone said he took up kiting after having a go on a windsurfer and not being impressed.
“I went down to take some photos of the local kiters,” he said.
“And it was later that evening whilst going through all the photos that I got hooked.
“The next day I went to the kite shop and bought my gear.”
